Digitalab Featured Photographer: Laura Kennedy
At Digitalab, we appreciate the power of photography, whether it’s personal or professional. We asked Laura Kennedy for one of her images and posed a couple of questions to find out exactly what it is she loves about photography and what she’d say to any enthusiastic photographer hoping to make a career out of their passion.
Tell us a bit about this image and why you chose it to be featured.
I have chosen this photo as i believe it shows how beautiful the North East is. This is a shot taken by myself at St Mary’s lighthouse, Whitley Bay at around 4am in the morning as the sun was rising. There has been limited editing done to this to allow people to see the true colours of a sunrise in the North East.
Which styles of photography most interest/inspire you?
I love landscape photography and believe that we live in an area of the UK that is perfect for that. Anything from the great architecture and bridges of the city centre, to the rolling fields in the middle of what seems like nowhere. There are so many different ways of catching our great landscapes and I love seeing unique images of our popular places.
What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring photographer?
Practice, practice and practice again. Be harsh on yourself and really critique your work so you improve with each shot. Theres nothing worse than looking through a portfolio that has hundreds of the same image.
I started LK Photography as a way for not only experienced photographers to work with us but also new photographers to learn more and gain feedback. We have worked with a number of student photographers or enthusiasts wanting to get to that next step, they have attended shoots with us and have worked alongside our professionals. We are soon starting photography workshops from beginners up to enthusiasts so they can learn new skills and maybe even get some work experience with us.
