Digitalab Featured Photographer: Phil McMenemy
At Digitalab, we appreciate the power of photography, whether it’s personal or professional. We asked Phil McMenemy for one of his images and posed a couple of questions to find out exactly what it is he loves about photography and what he’d say to any enthusiastic photographer hoping to make a career out of their passion.
Tell us a bit about this image and why you chose it to be featured.
The image I have sent is entitled ‘Storm Tree and Rainbows’.
It took me a year to actually send this to print as I thought folk wouldn’t believe it. I am colour blind so tend to limit my editing as much as possible, in this image’s case very, very little change at all. I spoke with this tree for about seven years before finally going to visit her to say hello and try to capture her – this night had to be the night and hopefully it was.
Which styles of photography most interest/inspire you?
Hmmmm, difficult one – I think a good image is a good image whatever the genre. I can enjoy all forms of photography from ‘snaps’ my kids take to the ‘deep and meaningful’ ones.
What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring photographer?
Work hard, be yourself and try not to imitate. (That’s three but I said them really quickly, so it counts as one!)
