Back for its 5th year we are thrilled to announce the return of the Residency of the North for 2023!

Bringing together the very best speakers and educators in the industry alongside an inclusive, relaxed and fun enviroment designed
to let you unwind and enjoy time away with like-minded fellow photographers. All set in the beautiful County Durham
countryside at the stunning Black Horse Beamish, home of this amazing event for the past five years.

Community is at the heart of this event. Over the past five years we have been able to bring so many photographers and trainers
together to share their experiences with each other and create strong friendships within the industry
and we will continue this ethos of being an inclusive and welcoming event.


Tickets are only £650 inc VAT and include SIX masterclass sessions of your choice over the two days, your breakfasts, lunches,
evening meals (along with as much caffeine as you can consume) and a three course meal on the Tuesday evening.

NEW for Residency of North 2023 – you also have the option to split your payments, making this event more accessible than ever

Set within the beautiful countryside of County Durham, The Residency of the North returns for its 5th year and will again provide two and a half completely immersive days of education and fun.

World-class workshops, shoot sessions and practical demos combine with a relaxed atmosphere, great food & drink, a splash of live music & entertainment & so much more!

frequently asked questions

Can I pay in instalments?
YES! Our payment system is set up so you only need to pay a deposit of £200 to secure your space and then 3 instalments after then.
Can I change classes after I’ve selected them?
No. The venues now need exact figures for each room to comply with fire regulations so we must stick to the classes selected by our attendees.
Where are the nearest airports & train stations?
Newcastle International Airport 12.4 miles.
Newcastle Central Station 7.3 miles, Durham Station 10.4 miles, Sunderland Central Station 16.3 miles.
Is my deposit refundable?
No – The deposits are used to secure both the venue and speakers. If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend, then you can sell on your deposit to another photographer however we must be informed of this so we may contact the new attendee to set up their ticket. Selling on of your deposit must be carried out privately and not across any of Digitalab’s social media platforms.
Is my food included?
Yes, and a LOT of it! All of your breakfast, lunch and evening meals are included as are tea, coffee, water and sweet treats throughout both days.
Do I need a camera
Whilst you don’t HAVE to bring any equipment with you, a lot of the classes offer opportunities for hand’s on participation so we do advise to bring at least your camera of choice – you’d kick yourself if you missed out!
Is accommodation included?
With the northern event accommodation is NOT included but there are a number of incredible venues to stay close by! There is limited accommodation on site as well as fabulous hotels within 0.5-2 miles of the Black Horse. Further information can be found further up this page.
Is there events on in the evenings?
Yes! We have two gatherings at the event on both the Monday and Tuesday evenings for all attendees and speakers to let their hair down!
Is the venue accessible?
Yes, the venue is fully accessible.
Can I attend a single class or attend for only one day?
No, the event is specifically designed to allow photographers the opportunity to see a collection of exceptional speakers, covering a wide variety of subjects to aid your business.
Can you cater for any dietary requirements?
There is an exceptional restaurant on site at the venue which not only prepares all of the mouth-watering food on offer but can also cater for any dietary requirements. Please contact us after booking your ticket to inform us of any dietary requirements we need to provide for you. Due to the size of the event we are not able to offer requests on the day if not requested at the time of booking.
Is parking available?
Yes, parking is available on site and is free all day.
What happens after I purchase my ticket?
Once you’ve purchased your ticket you will be sent a link to select your chosen classes and secure your space on them. You'll also be invited to join our Residency Facebook group (if you are not already a member). This group has been around since our first Residency and is open to all past and present attendees and speakers. It is used to announce event details, introduce the speakers to the attendees, answer any questions posed to the community and so much more! It is also a great opportunity to introduce yourself to others attending and get to know each other before that first (bottle is opened) shutter is clicked!
